Restorations At Hawthorn have been repairing and restoring damaged artworks since 1960.

Edmund Valentin, the current owner, has been a full-time restorer since 1974.

History

Dr. Valentin a former museum director, artist and restorer comes to Australia in 1957.

Restoration business commences in 1959.

In 1968 Dr. Valentin is commissioned to paint 64 portraits for St. Anthony's Shrine in Hawthorn. First of two editions of "The Art of The Restorer" is published in 1968.

A Woman's Day centre fold about the Valentins appears July 1977 (one of many articles).

In 1973 Edmund Valentin commences restoration with Dr. Valentin.

In 1976 an exhibition about the restoration is held at The Hawthorn City Gallery.

In 1978 Edmund attends ICOM conference in Zagreb, one of many study trips.

In 2011 Margaret Valentin commences work with Edmund.

  • Artwork is always photographed and its condition recorded.
  • Restoration is carried out employing reversible archival materials, as the long term conservation of the art work is of paramount importance.
  • Once quoted; prices never increase.
  • We can provide before and after photos of our work for clients to use in advertising under their own business names.
  • Our goal (depending on the work involved) is to return the artwork inside of 6 weeks.
